A VM is a visitor message. People can post them on your profile and you can post on theirs. Other people would see it though.

What exactly does "VM" stand for? I've never heard of a "VM" until I've been on this forum, and I've been on forums for years and years now.

VM stands for Visitor Messages. They're the messages that are shown when ever you visit your Profile.
Don't worry, everyone has a lot to learn. No matter how long they've been on this forum. :)
