Erm, I guess I'll post up some of my own tips here. Those are some really good tips already posted, though. They're extremely helpful. :] Mine will just be about running a roleplay, so its usefulness will be limited to people who want to start or have already started their own roleplay.

How to run a roleplay successfully and efficiently.

  • Diligently organize the front page. This will attract more people to your roleplay, as well as make it easier to read through. Make a list of members here and there characters. It helps to take the time to briefly describe each character. Trust me, this is important. An unorganized, messy front page makes things difficult to understand, thus resulting in mistakes made by members.

  • Lay out rules very clearly and concisely, or else members will be frustrated by the fact that others are breaking the rules, while in fact; the offenders probably didn’t understand them. Don’t make rules that are paragraphs long. People won’t read them. Instead, sum them up quickly, highlighting the main ideas of the rule. If you’re using specialized terms in your rules, such as powerplaying and godmoding, you’ll want to explain what these mean.

  • Enforce the rules, and watch your roleplay like a hawk eying its prey. Remind yourself of the basic rules of BearvilleInsider and make sure that your roleplay follows these at all times, or be prepared to face the wrath of the lock. Don’t be afraid to tell people that they’re breaking them. Your roleplay’s rules must comply with the basic roleplaying rules of BI, but you’re free to add on for your own needs. However, the moderators’ powers win out in the end, so don’t argue with them. They have the final say in things. Lastly, you must enforce rules fairly. Don’t be lenient on some select members and harsh on others. Enforce the rules often, and they’ll be drilled into the members’ heads.

  • Be active as the roleplay’s master. Inactivity leads to broken rules and your roleplay falling apart. Don’t let that happen. Your fellow roleplayers depend on you to lead the plot in the right direction.

  • Encourage friendships between members. Send some people some friendly VMs and make them feel like they’re an important part of the roleplay, because they are. Don’t just make it about the writing, though. Chat with them through visitor’s messages and make friends. :] You’ll keep members and forge bonds, so it’s a win-win situation. However, limit chat on your roleplay and take it to the visitor messages and private messages.

  • Let members feel involved. Allow them to help in decision-making and plot-directing. It’s a great feeling to be important in a plot, so let them have their fun. Try not to ignore a member’s post. If you can’t respond to a post, tell that person and give a reason why. Don’t lie.

  • Praise people for a job well done. Did you really like a certain part of somebody’s post? Tell them. Also, you may want to praise others at the same time, or else they’ll feel jealous. You don’t want that happening. It’s great encouragement too, and it’ll send a happy feeling throughout the roleplay.

Very helpful! rep point for you!

Cool! Do you need to ask before you open a RP? I want to make one, but I wasn't sure.

Yes, there is a sign up thread for RPs, but it's closed right now. It may be opening soon.

Make sure you POST MORE THAN ONE WORD. No one likes it when they've just typed this huge paragraph that takes them 10 or 15 minutes, has a lot of description, and makes the character talk several time only to have the other person type.
