I prefer MacBooks 100%. except the first MacBook Air, it's awful. xD
I don't like HP laptops or anything, I've always used iMac's and MacBooks so that's what I'm used to. I love love love them, but if that's too much money for Christmas then you could maybe find a Toshiba laptop? My dad loves Toshiba's, of course not as much as Macs. xD

HP laptops are NOT good, after only maybe less than a month my mom's HP had the keys falling out, and it can get pretty hot. We're definitely never getting an HP again.
I'd suggest either a Sony VAIO or a Toshiba. Sony computers are really good. Our old VAIO lasted for nearly 10 years, and the only reason we had to get a new desktop is because we had so many things downloaded on it.
I've heard Macs are really good, but the cheapest MacBook you can get is $999.

In my opinion, Macs are definitely the best in the market, but they are also some of the most expensive. If you're looking for decent priced but good quality, I'd go with an HP or a Toshiba. I have a Toshiba and it comes with Windows 7 and it works GREAT. So I'd definitely recommend it!
