If you start a fad, be glad, not mad!
I've seen several threads where people have gotten very upset because others were making similar signatures, avatars, or random chat threads to theirs. Not copying them exactly, but following a basic format that imitated in some way what they were doing. These signatures, avatars, or threads have also seemed to be based on relatively common ideas either in the public domain or parodying something else to which the "trend starters" cannot hold copyright.
I understand how it can hurt your feelings to have other people copy you, especially if you worked hard to put your picture or whatever out there. However, it is one thing to ask politely that someone credit you for starting a trend. It is quite another to cry out vehemently against what they did, if they are not copying your image, words, or material that you created, and they are generally doing nothing wrong.
If you see a post with an avatar or signature that copies yours, please report it so that it may be investigated properly. Link also to the material that you believe it is copying, so that the images or text can be compared.
Edit: OK, NOW this business about the copying has gone WAY too far. If I see another thread attacking people for having "copied" your ideas, it will be automatically deleted.
